Prima's CIO Cliff Stanton weighed in on emerging markets growth and valuation considerations in the June 2009 On Wall Street's Mutual Fund Report: Asia, Tech Lead the Way.

“…Cliff Stanton, chief investment officer at Prima Capital, is on the optimistic side regarding this recent rally. He says that Prima, which provides investment research and portfolio design to wealth management practices, focuses on long-term thinking. And it feels that emerging markets have definite long-term value for investors. He would not give specifics, but he did say that Prima is increasing emerging market exposure in their asset allocation recommendations.
That stems largely from the growth potential of those emerging economies, he says. Moreover, Stanton says that gross domestic product estimates from the International Monetary Fund for emerging markets this year are 1.6%. That may not seem like tremendous growth until compared to the 3.8% declines estimated for G-7 countries, he says.
As far as emerging market investing, Stanton notes that the price-to-earnings ratio of the Russell Emerging Market Index peaked at 19 in October 2007. Then it fell to just 8 last November and it still has more gains before it can be viewed as overpriced, he says…”
